Ceramic semiconductor materials are numerous in ceramics. The property of resistance changing with temperature can be used for nonlinear resistance. Negative temperature coefficient nonlinear resistance (NTC nonlinear resistance) decreases with increasing temperature and has general semiconductor characteristics. Iron based metal oxide ceramics, due to their chemical and thermal stability, can be used for nonlinear resistors to control temperature over a wide range. On the contrary, components called positive temperature coefficient thermistors (PTC thermistors) use semiconducted BaTiO3 ceramics. This type of ceramic, due to its rapid increase in resistance at the phase change temperature, can be automatically controlled near the phase change temperature if applied as a resistance heating element, which is very convenient.
